Liver disease can strike anyone at any age. Now you know. Help us
strike back.
Jennifer

When Jennifer's
newborn daughter Taya was diagnosed with biliary atresia (a serious
form of liver disease), she and her husband were devastated. Feeling
helpless being forced to watch their tiny daughter undergo procedure
after procedure, they realized that this was a fight that the whole
family would need to take on. "We decided it was time to stop
crying and try to do something about this disease," says Jennifer.
They eventually connected with the Canadian Liver Foundation through
another couple in a similar situation.
"We couldn't
believe how little funding goes into liver disease research, let
alone pediatric liver research," says Jennifer. "It's so frustrating
knowing how much research needs to be done for children like Taya
and so many others. Unfortunately there is still a stigma in people's
minds that associates liver disease with alcoholics and drug users.
"We have
to take an active part in trying to find better treatments and cures.
Giving our time or helping to raise funds is the least we can do.
I've met so many incredible people while volunteering for the CLF
and their stories and journeys are inspiring. It's been comforting
to know that we're not alone."
"As my
daughter is one of the one in 10 Canadians with liver diseases,
I'm grateful that the CLF funds research that may one day discover
what causes biliary atresia and find a cure. I've been trying to
do my part by telling everyone I can to support the work of the
CLF!"
