We're
behind you all the way
Kathy
After what seemed
to be a lifetime of trying to cope with low energy and various other
symptoms, in 1996 I was diagnosed with an inherited liver disorder
that had seriously damaged my kidneys.
Living with
kidney disease has meant living with many painful and disfiguring
medical procedures. My journey has included dealing with kidney
cancer and severe sleep apnea. This disease has cost me my career
and caused immeasurable stress on my family.
Through all
of this, The Kidney Foundation of Canada has been indispensable
in helping me and my family to learn to live with and manage kidney
disease. It was through the Kidney Foundation that I gained the
confidence to start planning for the future. Vacationing at the
Lion's Club Camp Dorset with financial assistance from The Kidney
Foundation allowed my family and me to enjoy much needed recreation
time together.
The area in
which the Foundation has had the largest impact is research. I have
benefited from improvements in dialysis technology, techniques,
and pharmaceuticals that were a direct result of research dollars.
I firmly belive that my health is much better than it would otherwise
have been because of these advances. For that, I am very grateful..
For all these
reasons, my family and I try to give back through volunteering with
The Kidney Foundation, in order to help the next patient living
with kidney disease.
