Are we obsessed with germs? Has the fear of ebola and flesh-eating disease caused people to overreact? A fear about germs and bacteria has some people bypassing the traditional soap & water and reaching for antiseptic solutions instead. It appears that antiseptic solution does clean hands more thoroughly than soap, primarily because a residue from the solution remains on the hands even after they are rinsed and this residue continues to combat germs. A fear that these antiseptic solutions may be leading to the creation of new and stronger bacteria has not been substantiated.
