Health Tip

More people are combining natural or naturopathic remedies with conventional therapy.

Nutritional and herbal supplements may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medication. Tell your doctor before surgery about any supplements you use regularly. Some, such as garlic and ginkgo, may increase the amount of bleeding that occurs during surgery and may have to be stopped before surgery and for some time afterward. Some, however, may be helpful in reducing the anxiety related to your upcoming surgery or may complement the conventional drug therapy which you are taking. If you are interested in using natural or homeopathic remedies to help speed healing and reduce the side effects of anesthetics, ask your doctor to recommend some supplements or refer you to someone who can.
